The annual Martin Doyle Classic was held on last Saturday.
Unfortunately the weather was not so favourable, the ladies who
began early fared best. In spite of the inclement conditions a large
number of ladies took part in the scramble and returned to the
clubhouse later for a super evening's entertainment. This began at
7.30 and continued late into the night. The presentation of prizes
was first on the agenda and the array of prizes was fantastic. Ger
Doyle of Martin Doyle & Sons Butchers was on hand to greet all
the ladies in turn as they collected their winnings. This is really
the final major event of the season for the ladies and spirits were
high as the successes of the year were recounted. Thanks to Barry
and his staff for the beautiful food served and to local band "Down
and Out" for a great night's music and entertainment afterwards. A
huge 'thank you' to Jimmy and Ger for their continued support and
sponsorship.
First prize was won by the team of: Jennifer King (5), Mary Egan
(36) and Hilary Kehoe (36) with a score of 63.3. However, on this
special occasion there was a prize for everyone in the audience and
they were received to rapturous applause.
Wine tasting course delivered by John O'Dwyer (WSET Diploma) was a
great success last Thursday night. All wines tasted are now on
special offer from Barry Whelan in the bar. Wine Appreciation Course
(6 weeks) will commence on Thursday November 3. Well done to Social
Committee for organising these events for members. The 'Find the
Joker' fund-raising is continuing. Envelopes for entry (€2)
available in Pro Shop and Bar. All proceeds go to course accessories
such as flags, signs, rakes and plants. Draw will take place in the
bar on the last Sunday of every month for the Winter season and
members and visitors are ask to support. Congratulations to Joan
Dunbar and Martin 'Murty' Dempsey who are the incoming ladies and
gents Vice Captains respectively for 2012. Good luck in your future
roles at Enniscorthy Golf Club.
