The first evening of the wine appreciation course went down a treat last Thursday with a Grand Cru turning up for what looks like a popular activity for members on these long dark nights. Thanks again to John O'Dwyer (WSET Diploma) for his guided tour through the wine regions and to the Social Committee for organising this and many other social events. The clubhouse under its manager Barry Whelan carries a large stock of superb wines sourced from a local distributor. Martin Doyle & Sons Senior Gents Open Singles will take place this coming Thursday November 10 and so far the weather looks to remain favourable. The course looked resplendent over the weekend as the contrast in the colours of the trees were highlighted by the welcomed winter sunshine. Unfortunately the frost caused disruption to some early morning tee-times and to the winter league but it burned off quickly to allow golfers out to enjoy the respite from the wind and rain. The Driving Range attached to the club is now floodlight and is open in the evenings. Members should purchase tokens in the bar or from the pro-shop early to avail of this facility. The Christmas Carollers will meet again on Mondays and already many members have shown a keen interest.
