Join Enniscorthy Golf Club in 2011

The Mernagh Brothers
Enniscorthy Golf Club has a very strong junior boys & girls section and it is through the efforts and dedication of the junior conveners that many of our towns local youths have found a way to enjoy a sport, develop self discipline and honesty through golf. Golf is not just a game, as a sport it embodies a desire to achieve perfection, as a hobby it's seen as one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy regardless of age or ability, every golfer is allowed to progress at their own pace through the handicap system. How pleasant it is to walk over hundreds of acres of local countryside including the town-lands of Knockmarshall, Bloomfield and extending into Jamestown and Clohass, the Leap. Now entering it's 104th year in existence, one of the oldest institutions in the town of Enniscorthy, the Club has seen many cultural and historic changes. If it was once seen as the preserve of the wealthy and professional and as a separate entity from the town outside the reach of the people this could not be further from the truth at this point in time. Enniscorthy Golf Club is open for members of all ages and part of the club's continued success is the characters and people who make up the membership. Ideally located just off the New Ross-Waterford road it is an ideal rendezvous point and there you'll find local personalities with long established names in the town working on the course, behind the bar, in the office and professional golf-shop. If you're interest in becoming a member why not call out to the clubhouse and grab a cup of coffee and sample the friendly atmosphere for yourself. You could chat with Barry Whelan about sport, life or get a tip for the 3.15 at Kempton (at your own risk!) and discuss the various affordable options of becoming a member with the office staff or phone 9233191.
Happy New Year to all our members and their families, sponsors and societies for 2011.

Winter League Concludes for 2010

The weather did its best to spoil this years event kindly sponsored by Martin Doyle Butchers, but unlike the "Ryder Cup" we managed to finish on time, even if we only got in 2 rounds. The emphasis is on the social aspect of the game and the format helped golfers to meet new friends and have a bit of fun. The consensus was we achieved that and next year we hope to start a bit earlier before the snow arrives. The quality of golf was supreme and the comfort of the "19th" was a welcome spot as scores were whispered by nervous teams. We thank Ger and Jimmy Doyle for their generous sponsorship. Barry Whelan as usual will have a banquet befitting the occasion and maybe a glass of wine for good measure. There is a draw for a Turkey for those who did not win any of the prizes, so be there. Finally, there is no truth in the rumour Jack is giving Wickham one of his Turkeys !!
1st Team "B" led by the wily Jack Sheridan , accompanied by Jim Mackey, Pat Fortune and Peter O'Shea on 134 points.
2nd Team "C" captained by Tony O'Neill, who motivated his team of Paddy Mooney, Sean Early and Tom Breen into a great effort on 133 points
3rd Team "H" led by James Sheridan, Tom J. Murphy, Brian O'Connor, Jim Gahan on 132 points.
Weekly Turkey Winners were Tom Breen and Jack Sheridan both scoring 36 points.
Prize giving Dinner on Saturday Dec 11th at 3pm .
