Enniscorthy Golf Club has a very strong junior boys & girls section and it is through the efforts and dedication of the junior conveners that many of our towns local youths have found a way to enjoy a sport, develop self discipline and honesty through golf. Golf is not just a game, as a sport it embodies a desire to achieve perfection, as a hobby it's seen as one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy regardless of age or ability, every golfer is allowed to progress at their own pace through the handicap system. How pleasant it is to walk over hundreds of acres of local countryside including the town-lands of Knockmarshall, Bloomfield and extending into Jamestown and Clohass, the Leap. Now entering it's 104th year in existence, one of the oldest institutions in the town of Enniscorthy, the Club has seen many cultural and historic changes. If it was once seen as the preserve of the wealthy and professional and as a separate entity from the town outside the reach of the people this could not be further from the truth at this point in time. Enniscorthy Golf Club is open for members of all ages and part of the club's continued success is the characters and people who make up the membership. Ideally located just off the New Ross-Waterford road it is an ideal rendezvous point and there you'll find local personalities with long established names in the town working on the course, behind the bar, in the office and professional golf-shop. If you're interest in becoming a member why not call out to the clubhouse and grab a cup of coffee and sample the friendly atmosphere for yourself. You could chat with Barry Whelan about sport, life or get a tip for the 3.15 at Kempton (at your own risk!) and discuss the various affordable options of becoming a member with the office staff or phone 9233191.
Happy New Year to all our members and their families, sponsors and societies for 2011.
