COOPER TRAINING SERVICES WILL SPONSOR FINAL

Paddy Mooney 2009 Champion with Sponsor Tommy Cooper and Edward Somers organiser.
Thanks again to Tommy Cooper who has kindly agreed to sponsor, yet again, the "Champion of Champions" competition that normally would see the final of the mid-week competitions. However, this year it is decided to continue the popular mid-week competitions over the Wednesday and Thursday after the 'final'. These will be club sponsored events. Tommy first inaugurated the idea of the 'Champions of Champions as it about coincided with the end of the football season and it is a play of words on the Champions League. All winners of a mid-week are involved in this competition where in the past it would also conclude the mid-week season.

Big Thank You From John

I would like to thank all of my dear friends at Enniscorthy Golf Club who wished me well following my recent illness. Your genuine concern for my speedy recovery back to golf was sincere and made me realise why I joined Enniscorthy over other clubs closer to home. Enniscorthy holds a special place in my heart and the friendliness and warmth of its members is to be commended. I wish Gods blessings on each and everyone of you and your families.
Yours Sincerely
John Noblett

Séan Wins C.B.S Past Pupils

Sean Early, Men's Committee Member, has won the 2010 C.B.S Past Pupils competition with a great score of 45 points. John McGuire and Sean O'Leary were on hand to present the prizes at which Sean thanked his playing partners Kenny Leech and Sean Galavan. Sean went on to congratulate the course staff on the excellent condition of the course and the sponsors.
In second place with 44 points was Enniscorthy Past Pupil Kevin McCarthy Jrn who takes the Brother Ned Kerrigan Memorial Cup 2010.
Br. Kerrigan was a native of the town from St. John's Villas and past pupil of St. Mary's CBS
Kevin McCarthy Jrn with Carmel Considine receiving the Br. Ned Kerrigan Memorial Cup

A communique issued by Brother Kerrigan's Order gave the details of his death as follows: "On Monday morning, April 10, 1995, Br. Kerrigan was driving his minibus to Freetown accompanied by Brother Ben Kamara, to join the brothers for the Regional Chapter. There was a second car travelling just behind them with three brothers inside. As they reached a point on the road with banking on each side, automatic fire was directed at them from both sides of the road. Br. Kerrigan was wounded in the stomach and right elbow and the minibus came to a halt. The second car, seeing what was happening, accelerated through past the minibus and despite being fired on, escaped. The rebels ceased fire and approached the minibus and removed the brothers from the vehicle. With Br. Kerrigan lying on the ground, they were preparing to take Ben with them to their camp when they found out that they were from the Catholic Mission in Bo.

At this they decided to release the brothers and asked Ben if he could drive. He said yes but as the vehicle had been disabled by the gunfire, they had to walk. The rebels left. Br. Kerrigan was too weak to walk far and after a short distance told Ben to go ahead and get help while he rested at the road side. Ben proceeded to the next army point where he reported the incident. On reaching the spot, the army found that Br. Kerrigan had died and brought his body back to the check-point from where it was taken by taxi to Freetown." Brother Kerrigan was buried in Freetown on Wednesday, 19 April, 1995. Strong ties have forged between Enniscorthy CBS and the school in Bo, Sierra Leone and there is a community hall dedicated to the memory of Br. Kerrigan in Bo named in his memory.

Enniscorthy are Jim Whitney Shield Champions 2010

The Jim Whitney Shield was inaugurated in 1983 and it continues to honour the memory of a great man, member and tireless worker for Enniscorthy Golf Club. Though Jim sadly passed away in June of 1988, the torch has been kept alive by Sean O'Leary and his helpers who organise this annual event. Though entries from clubs from the region has fallen off due to the current economic climate, those clubs who enter their 8-man team for €150, which includes a meal, enjoy the inter-club competitiveness of the event in a less serious tone than other tournaments but nevertheless every club goes out to win. This year, as in other years, the weather was fine for the event and all visitors has nothing but praise for the condition of the course. It is indeed a great PR exercise for the course and clubhouse. Again top marks to John Hutchinson, Chef, for the choice and quality of the dinner served and thanks to our sponsor, Tommy O'Rouke, who gave a good account of himself on the course as related in dispatches. A special thanks to all the Management of clubs who entered a team and to all those members of clubs who took the time off to participate. Everyone's a winner.
