It was a glorious day for golf on Tuesday 29th September when the ladies competed in the 18-hole stableford competition kindly sponsored by The Logo Centre. There was a great array of prizes on display and we would like to thank Liam Spratt for his continuous sponsorship. In ideal conditions scoring was hot with Anne Harvey (20) coming in first with a great score of 46 pts. 2nd Marie Dunphy (22) 44 pts, 3rd Lucy Healy (14) 43 pts, 4th Joe O’Connor (17) 41 pts and in 5th place Sharon McGuire (31) with 40 pts. The ladies match play has reached the final stages with Stella Sinnott (16) up against Margaret Mooney (9). The competition for the Gill Leo Trophy, a 9-hole match play for the 36 lady handicappers has concluded with congratulations to Deirdre Doyle who is the winner of this prestigious trophy. Next Tuesday the Turkey competition continues with draw times so ladies please note draw times as follows - 9.00am, 9.30am, 10.00am & 10.30am. This will be over 15-holes stableford.

The popular senior gents' open singles will take place Thursday the 8th sponsored by Harry and Bridie O'Connor and there are still a few vacant tee times available around noon. The seniors tour remains one of the best supported events in most clubs around the region and it popularity has been forged by the efforts of the clubs senior committee who work hard behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of these events.
Next weekends busy schedule includes a visit from the Graiguenamnagh golf society on Saturday followed by a visit from Wexford Golf Club committee to which we extend a special welcome and we wish all our visitors a pleasant days golfing.
Members taking part in the 'Champion of Champions' tournament have been seen on the driving and practise areas of the course tuning and tweaking their swing for the final also taking place this coming Saturday the 10th. It has also been suggested that Mick Wickham is available to carry out all tasks from caddying to lending moral support where requested. The day concludes with a ladies 9-hole competition. Sunday sees the gents open singles competition for hampers sponsored by the club. This is followed by the left versus the right; no, this is not a political battle but rather left handed golfers versus their counter right handed golfers and is seen as a fun event albeit with a serious element of competitiveness. The course superintendent P.J.Dempsey and his staff, together with the course committee under the direction of Michael Dee continue to keep the course in great order constantly up against the elements and time constraints of the shorting days. We commend them for their efforts. The course flourishes with a wide variety of flora and fauna because of the environmental care of the course staff who do not use fertilisers or insecticides that cause harm to the eco-system. The course provides what Mother Nature intended; wonderful views of the countryside, mature trees that provide a challenge to the experienced golfer and a joy to the novice. The clubhouse prides itself on its friendly unpretentious character where a warm welcome awaits the visitor. The past few weeks of dry weather and the timing of the course sanding have improved ball travel and the manicured greens are in top form. The beauty of golf is that each season constructs for the golfer a new layout of challenges on our course to surmount and paints a varied tapestry of colours and beauty of the surround Wexford country-side.
